Chicago Showroom
Designtex
2025

Central to any working textile showroom is the ability to show drops of material and hang them easily. Textile yardage typically comes rolled on a tube and is cut to length - with that cut edge often needing to be treated.

My solution for Designtex’s new Chicago showroom was a display system that allows extra yardage and rolls to be hidden. The resulting Textile Box system evokes garden planters with the textiles emerging upwards, supported by an unseen substructure.

Woven Structures
USM Modular Furniture
2025

Woven Structures is a collection of objects that integrates Danish paper cord into the USM Haller system for the first time, celebrating the interplay of contrasting materials that each hold a place of importance within the world of furniture design.

The proven legacy of USM Haller, combined with paper cord’s durability and repairability, creates a family of objects imbued with both visual richness and functional longevity.

Tidal Lighting
RBW2025

Tidal is a program of flush mount ceiling lights in three sizes. A spun aluminum shade surrounds a central 12” diameter diffuser, floating in space and balancing the distribution of light upwards and downwards without ceiling shadows.

The undulating form of the shade is an architectural evocation of the waters edge, and provides a logic for the three sizes of Tidal offered - in one, two or three ripples, for specification in variety of interior spaces.

Anchor TablesBestcase 2024

A bold and minimalist side table, Anchor embodies a straightforward, honest and highly resolved approach to object making - values shared by myself and Charles Constantine of Bestcase.

A block of heavy material (such as travertine marble or solid wood) provides the weight, bent sheet steel provides the structure, and visible bolts hold everything together.

Boom! Bop! Boing!MillerKnoll 2024

For Design Days 2024, Standard Issue re-created the experience of Herman Miller’s Test Lab atop MillerKnoll’s Chicago showroom, entitled Boom! Bop! Boing!

An aluminum superstructure was designed to accept eight fully functional mechanical tests, which ran continuously over the course of Design Days. A perimeter fence kept viewers at a safe distance and provided a moment for graphics panels.

The exhibit provided a visceral and immersive experience that stood out from the typically static displays of furniture encountered during Neocon.

Medicated Objects
Paraphernelia Exhibition2024

Medicated Objects was my contribution to the inaugural Paraphernalia Exhibition, curated by Eliza Axelson-Chidsey and Jess Fügler.

Three aluminum containers hold two essential daily medications in an orderly and purposeful fashion. 20mg Vyvance (or the equivalent generic) capsules for ADHD are held in a 25 count array for taking at home, and in a 5 count array for taking at work. The third container holds 60 tablets of 2500mcg B12 used to treat pernicious anemia.

Tango Watering Can
Areaware
2024

Tango is a small watering can designed in collaboration with Pete Oyler. Our goal was to design a friendly and functional watering can with a minimum of material.

Through sketching and conversation, we happened upon the idea of the handle and spout being the same part, oriented opposite one another in relationship to their function.

Eames Archives
The Eames Institute2023

The Eames Archives in Richmond, CA houses a massive collection of prototypes, correspondence, artworks and ephemera from the life and office of Ray and Charles Eames.

Standard Issue was tasked with spatial programming and exhibition design. Central to the exhibit space is a large, organic display table and a unique, custom designed “pegboard wall” with integrated vitrines and a corresponding hardware system, which allows for the display of a variety of objects.

Azuma is a small catch-all in sandcast aluminum or brass. A scooped interior profile and sloped sides are informed by the geometry of volcanic craters and the draft angle needed for cast metal parts.

Windows Into Their World
The Eames Institute2022
The Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity asked Standard Issue to tell the story of Ray and Charles Eames’ work through the display of archival objects and artwork.

Prototypes, rare production samples, and a variety of personal artifacts were selected and shipped to Herman Miller’s flagship retail store in New York. A system of aluminum structures, inspired by the Eames’ use of stock industrial elements in their work, provided a strong and adaplable framework for object display.
